Chemicals
As part of the District's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, larvicides and adulticides are used to treat for mosquitoes both before they hatch and when they are adults.
Natular™ is an organic larvicide whose active ingredient is obtained from spinosad, which is a naturally derived product from soil bacterium. This product is applied in the District's storm drains to treat mosquitoes before they become adults. Click here for further information and the label information for this larvicide product.
AquaAnvil™ is a water-based adulticide whose active ingredient is sumithrin and dissipates into the environment faster than the permethrin oil-based chemical that used to be applied. Very small amounts of this softer chemical are used, mixed with water, to create a mist that relies on evaporation for its effectiveness. Click here for more details and label information for this adulticide.
